Taytay was founded in 1579 by the illustrious Franciscan missionary, the Venerable Juan Portocarrero de Plasencia. Fr. Plasencia, was the author of Doctrina Christiana and several other writings that significantly influenced the early Hispanic civilization and Christianization of the country. He was highly-regarded an expert in language, a pioneer in educating the natives, and a zealous missionary who evangelized and founded towns in the Laguna-Quezon-Rizal-Bulacan lagoon region.
Among his confreres were Saints Pedro Bautista y Blazquez (founder of Quiapo Church and San Francisco del Monte Sanctuary-Church; martyred in Nagasaki), and San Francisco de Sta. Maria (the youngest among the first batch of Franciscan missionaries who arrived in the country; martyred in Borneo).
Many seemed unaware that the founding of Taytay town and its nascent Church both stood and rooted on the same historical origin and development, and that, they have since existed in a symbiotic relation. It presupposes that one could not have existed without the other. They are historically inseparable. (See "Position Paper")
Hence, a whole lot more are yet to be discovered, expounded, qualified, and even “corrected.” Now is 2018―the Year of the Clergy and the Religious―the sixth year in preparation for the 500th Year of Christianity in our land. Beyond the horizon, the faithful Christians are not merely seeking a place in the sun. They are in dire search for meaning. Taytayeños are among them.
So comes the second book dated March 25, 2018, now titled "Juan de Plasencia, OFM: Tatay ng Taytay ni Juan". The e-book is available through "Taytay ni Juan" blogsite.
